QSM3

Quantum Spinal Mechanics - 3 Dimensions

CornerStone Chiropractic is proud to be the first clinic in the state of North Dakota to offer the QSM3 chiropractic technique.  In fact, CornerStone is one of less than 100 clinics in the world currently offering this cutting edge technique.  QSM3 stands for Quantum Spinal Mechanics in 3 Dimensions.

What Is It?

This technique is the latest and most refined of the upper cervical chiropractic techniques.  Upper cervical chiropractic is famous the world over for its tremendous results with patient care, its scientific basis, and patient reports of great results and health improvements.

Why Is It So Valuable?

One of the most distinctive features of being a human is our ability to stand and walk upright. Walking upright takes a tremendous amount of brain power and nervous system wiring.  There are a lot of stresses that our brain and nervous system face every day, but the biggest and most ubiquitous is gravity. We are constantly using our energy to stand upright against its downward force.  Injuries and breakdowns over time lead us to being less and less efficient at standing upright and resisting gravity’s forces (grandma never gets taller).  As we become less efficient at fighting gravity over time we are naturally required to use more and more of our resources for it.  This leaves you with less resources (think energy) less to enjoy life with.  Our bodies' breakdown in its ability to stand up to gravity is inefficient and painful, but in addition to that the breakdown in our structure also effects the function of our nervous system, circulatory system, endocrine system, immune system, and all of our organs.

How Does It Work?

At CornerStone, we have technology to measure and quantify the breakdown in your spine in 3 dimensions. Then using that same technology, we measure the effectiveness of each adjustment at restoring you to a more healthy and efficient posture.

There is a formula for restoring you to your best possible posture.

  1. Remove the rotation/ compression from the spine

  2. Balance the opposing forces from side to side

  3. Stand the body up strait/ equal weight on both legs

  4. Restore the spines natural curves

  5. Remove any remaining tension from the spinal cord and nervous system

  6. Maintenances of your new and improved posture and function.

Once you are stable in each of those steps, you are graduated on to the next one.  It is as simple as that.

What Can A QSM3 Patient Expect?

The adjustment:

Once your 3-dimensional postural assessment is completed the doctor will place you on the table in the mirror image of your misalignment so that your body position on the table is already working to restore you back to correct alignment.  Since you are already in a position on the table moving you in the right direction the doctor is able to use gentle pressure to move the body further into balance.  This makes the adjustment quite comfortable for the patient.

There are 30 areas on your neck that the doctor uses to access muscle, connective tissue, and nerve attachments from your hips all the way up to your head.  The adjustments are generally done on both sides of the body depending on your particular misalignment and which level of restoration you are in.  The doctor follows the adjustment with another 3-D postural assessment and if an acceptable improvement has happened you are done for that visit.

The assessment:

The body has what is called a righting reflex that strives to keep the center of the skull balanced over the center of the pelvis.  When injuries occur (from childhood, auto accidents, bumps and falls, gravitational stress, poor posture etc.) the brain moves the spine in positions from side to side to keep the head over the pelvis.  When the brain no longer has room to move the spine from side to side it begins to rotate the spine to keep the head over the pelvis.  The QSM3 assessment measures the side to side, rotational, and gravitational effects of that breakdown.

The doctor measures:

1. Gravity: The patient stands on bilateral scales (two different highly accurate scales) and the difference in weight from side to side is measured. Normal weight is considered to be within 3lbs from side to side

2. Low hip: The doctor assesses your hips to see which hip is lower in a standing position.

3. Fixed point:  The first thoracic vertebra is the fixed point/ center of gravity of the spine and should be slightly biased to the side of the low hip.

Note: weight, low hip, and the fixed point are considered the biomechanical components of the

    spine.

4. Low shoulder:  The doctor will use a laser level to assess the position of the shoulders

5. Neck: The doctor will use a laser level to assess the position of the neck.

6. Head: The doctor will use a laser level to assess the position of the head in relation to the neck.

Note: The shoulder, neck and head are considered the neurological component of her body.

7. Rotation.  The doctor will use laser measuring devices to assess the rotation of the pelvic and shoulder girdle.  Normal rotation is considered to be 0-3mm of co-plainer (on the same side of the body) rotation of the shoulder and pelvic girdle respectively.

In Summary:

Thousands of patients (some traveling half way around the world to find a doctor) are getting amazing results with chronic pain and neurological problems from this cutting edge, scientifically based technique.  While we are never able to guarantee results -- as no two people are ever the same -- this technique has a lot of great potential for those looking for an alternative to methods they've used before, or who are interested in seeing how their body responds to this scientifically based technique.
